Wednesday June 22 – We’ve continued to take steps of progress in our building project in the last number of weeks.
On May 14 we had a small crew go to Wallace Point Rd and finish most of the demo work that is required before the professionals take over. We were able to remove some unneeded plumbing, take down another small wall and cleanup outside. In the process we filled a couple 30 yard bins with waste and scrap metal.
On June 17 we heard back from the city of Peterborough regarding our site plan application. There were many comments that we need to address and Mark Hicks, our architect, is leading the charge to address these items as soon as possible so we can re-submit to the city. It’s a much longer process than anyone anticipated but, as we’re learning, it is part of the process.
Here’s an updated site plan and floor plan for the new building. Lots happening behind the scenes!
We had a large crew of volunteers at the building. 70ft of old wall was removed on the road side of the property. A new 2×6 wall was installed, along with new windows donated by FCI windows. We removed garbage and a bunch of the old radiators from the building. Thanks to everyone who gave their time, tools, and expertise to help move this project forward. See pics below.
Through the months of August and September we have had volunteer crews working away at the site to remove ceilings, walls, and other demolition projects. There is a full report PDF available HERE.
In early December 2021 we announced our need to raise an additional 100,000 towards the renovation costs for our new facility. We have seen an incredible response and we hope to surpass our goal. Any additional funds will reduce our future mortgage and lower ongoing facility costs.
We will report our progress at the end of January.
*Update* Project kickstart was a success!
